Iran Threatens the US, Kind Of

The United States has dismissed Iran's comments that it can inflict "harm and pain" on Washington for its role in pushing for U.N. Security Council action over Tehran's refusal to halt its nuclear program.

"I think that provocative statements and actions only further isolate Iran from the rest of the world," White House press secretary Scott McClellan told reporters traveling with President George W. Bush to hurricane-affected states along the Gulf of Mexico, according to The Associated Press.

If Iran's statements were provocative, what were those of George Bush when he called Iran part of the Axis of Evil and Dick Cheney's "The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose meaningful consequences"?

I get the feeling that both sides are just beating their drums and not much is going to come of it. Iran would have to acquire hundres of centrifuges to successfully produce weapons grade uranium, and act that no on is going to let them do.

In addition, they need the income from their oil that comes from other countries.

The US needs their oil, more so now that China and India are becoming bigger consumers and China is locking up a lot of the worlds oil source in contracts.

So we'll see a lot of beating of chests, but not much real action.
